This is a short, honest guide to what there actually is to do around VELA Tianyar, for guests who want to explore and for those who would rather not.
On the water
The coast here is calm and easy to enter. You can snorkel straight off the pebbled shore, dive the Tulamben and Amed sites a short drive away, or go out with the fishermen at first light. The water is clear and the mornings are still.
You can snorkel off the beach on the Tianyar and Kubu coast. Tulamben and Amed are a short drive east for diving. At dawn, the fishing boats head out onto the water.
Inland and along the coast
Behind the coast the land rises quickly. There are northern waterfalls to find, salt farms further along the coast where dark sand is still raked and dried by hand, and long stretches of coast road with almost no traffic. It is the kind of place you explore slowly, on your own time.
Hidden waterfalls sit in the hills inland, and traditional salt-making continues along the coast. The scenic coast road runs east through Tulamben to Amed.
Or nothing at all
The north rewards a slower stay. Many guests come for the diving and end up spending as much time doing very little: coffee at dawn, a swim, a long lunch at Saga, the stars at night with no light pollution. There is no minimum programme here.
