If you are planning to dive Tulamben or Amed and want somewhere quiet and close to sleep between dives, this page explains where Tianyar is, how far the dive sites are, and how a stay works around a diving trip.
How close the diving is
Tianyar is on the north-east coast of Bali, on the same quiet shoreline as Tulamben and Amed. The famous USAT Liberty shipwreck at Tulamben is roughly twenty minutes east by car. The bays and muck-diving sites around Amed are around half an hour further along the coast.
That is close enough to do two or three dives a day and still be back for a slow lunch at Saga, our restaurant on site, without spending your holiday in traffic.
What the diving is like here
The north-east coast is calm, volcanic and rich. The Liberty wreck lies in shallow water and is reachable from the shore, so it suits everyone from first-timers to photographers. Amed is known for coral gardens, drop-offs and macro life. Between them, the black volcanic sand makes for dramatic muck diving and easy shore entries.

Staying here between dives
VELA is eleven canvas tents on the sand, oceanfront, at the foot of Mount Agung. It is deliberately quiet, with no crowds and no scooters, which is exactly what you want after a long day underwater. We do not run our own dive centre, but we know the operators in Tulamben and Amed and can help you arrange dives and a transfer so the logistics are simple.
