Location & area

VELA Tianyar is located on the north-east coast of Bali, in the village of Tianyar, Karangasem regency. The resort sits directly on the oceanfront along a stretch of volcanic black sand coast.

Yes. VELA Tianyar is on Bali's northern coast, in the quieter north-east corner of the island between Amed and Tulamben. It is far from the busy south, in a less-visited part of Bali.

VELA Tianyar is oceanfront, situated directly on the volcanic black sand coast. The ocean is steps away from the tents, with unobstructed views to the water.

Yes. Amed is approximately 40 minutes by car or scooter from VELA Tianyar along the coastal road. Amed's snorkelling bays and dive sites are easily accessible for day trips.

Yes. Tulamben is approximately 15 minutes from VELA Tianyar. The famous USAT Liberty shipwreck dive site is a short drive along the coast.

Lovina is further west along the north coast, roughly 2 to 2.5 hours from Tianyar by car. They are both on the north coast but in different areas. Tianyar is in the north-east, Lovina in the north-west.

Tianyar is a traditional fishing village known for its quiet volcanic coastline, open ocean views and proximity to Amed and Tulamben. It is not a tourist area, which is part of its appeal for travellers seeking calm.

Yes. Tianyar has no tourist infrastructure, no beach-town atmosphere and very few visitors. It is significantly quieter and less developed than Lovina, offering a more raw and natural coastal experience.

Getting here

VELA is roughly a 3-hour drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). We can arrange private airport transfers or help you find a reliable driver. The route takes you through scenic parts of East and North Bali.

Your stay

There is no strict minimum; one night is welcome. Most guests find two nights or more lets the pace of Tianyar settle in.

Every stay includes filtered water, daily minibar refreshment and towels. Tent refresh, deep cleaning, fresh linens and hairdryers are all available on request, whenever you like.

Housekeeping is on request. Whenever you'd like your tent refreshed, bins emptied, towels changed or the bed straightened, just let the team know and we will sort it. Full deep cleans can be arranged the same way. We aim to be present enough to keep things comfortable, but absent enough to let the stay feel like yours.

Yes to both. All tents have reliable WiFi and silent air conditioning. We also provide fans for those who prefer natural airflow.

We observe quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00 to ensure a peaceful atmosphere for all guests.

Yes, VELA can be booked exclusively for private retreats, wellness workshops, or small celebrations. Contact us for custom packages and availability.

When conditions allow, we light the fire pit in the evenings. It is one of the best parts of staying at VELA, sitting by the coast, watching the stars, and sharing stories.

Yes. VELA Tianyar is built around the idea of slowing down. There are no packed itineraries or activities programmes. Guests set their own rhythm, guided by the ocean, the light, and their own sense of pace.

VELA Tianyar is a small oceanfront tented camp offering a calm glamping-style experience. The accommodation consists of eleven designed tents built with natural materials, combining the openness of outdoor living with the comfort of a boutique stay.

Food & Saga

Breakfast is not included in the room rate. Breakfast at Saga is available as an add-on (IDR 150.000 per person), served daily from 07:30 to 10:30, an unhurried start to the day, looking out over the coast. Add it when you book, or decide on arrival.

Yes. Saga is open to outside guests for lunch and dinner. No reservation needed, though we recommend visiting during quieter hours for the best experience.

Things to do

Activities can be arranged through our concierge or added during the booking process. We recommend booking at least 24 hours in advance for guided experiences.

Guests can dive or snorkel at Tulamben and Amed, trek to Mount Batur or Mount Agung, visit Tirta Gangga water palace, explore Sidemen rice terraces, or simply enjoy the quiet coast, morning swims and long evenings by the sea.

Good to know

Bali is beautiful year-round. The dry season (April–October) brings clearer skies and calm seas, while the wet season (November–March) offers lush greenery and quieter beaches. Tianyar has its own micro-climate, drier and more open than the south.

The restaurant Saga is open to non-guests. However, the accommodation area is reserved exclusively for staying guests to maintain privacy and tranquility.

Light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, a hat, swimwear, and reef-safe sunscreen. Insect repellent is useful for evenings. We provide towels, toiletries, and a hairdryer on request.

Tianyar is a quiet fishing village with a strong community. It is very safe, and the local culture is welcoming and respectful. Crime is rare, and the community looks out for one another.

Balinese culture is deeply spiritual. During your stay, you may witness daily offerings (canang sari), temple ceremonies, or community gatherings. We encourage respectful observation and can help you understand the significance.

A 30% deposit confirms and secures your reservation. Your dates are guaranteed once we receive it, and the remaining balance is payable before arrival or on check-in. You can cancel free of charge up to your season's window before arrival: 3 days in low season, 7 in mid, 14 in high, and 30 in peak. If you cancel within that window the 30% deposit is non-refundable, and a no-show is charged in full. Rates are quoted in IDR and include 10% tax.
