If you are weighing up the far north of Bali, the first question is usually how you get there. This page explains the journey from the airport, when to arrive, and how to make the drive simple.
How long the journey takes
From Ngurah Rai airport in the south, Tianyar is roughly two and a half to three hours by car. The route runs east and then north, up and over the shoulder of the island, with the coast opening up as you come down to the sea.
It is further than the south-coast resorts, and that distance is the point: it is why the north stays quiet.
When to arrive
Aim to leave the airport with enough daylight to enjoy the drive, or plan a relaxed evening arrival and let the first morning be the reveal. Check-in is from 2pm and check-out by 11am. If your flight lands late, tell us and we will make sure your arrival is smooth.
Making the drive easy
