From the boats to the fire

Catch and Cook is a boat trip with a local fisherman. It leaves the shore at 06:00 and takes two to three hours. Your catch is cooked at Saga that evening. The boats go out most mornings, when the sea allows.

What happens on the boat?

The jukung is a small wooden outrigger, and it goes out from the pebble shore before the day is properly light. The fisherman has worked these waters for years and sets the pace. A breakfast box and water come with the trip, so you can leave before the kitchen opens at 07:30. A boat seats four, and two guests are included. If you want more people or extra gear, the concierge will tell you what that costs.

What happens to the catch?

Your catch is cooked at Saga that evening, a short walk from where the boats land. Some mornings the catch is smaller, and the kitchen says so. If you did not go out yourself, Saga still buys what it needs from the boats that land on the shore, and catch of the day is on the menu when the sea allows.

What if the sea says no?

Some days the boats stay in. The sea decides that, not us, and nothing is arranged in advance for those mornings. Ask the concierge or reception on the day. The kitchen at Saga cooks either way, and the evening still happens.

Is there a fire?

When the evening allows. That depends on the weather, so it is never promised. The kitchen is open from 12:00 to 21:00, and coffee runs all day.

Ask the concierge, or say so when you book your stay. Availability depends on the boat, the fisherman and the forecast, so an early word helps. You will see the trip listed as Catch and Cook.
